TikTok Video Dimensions and Safe Zones
Ideal TikTok Video Dimensions
TikTok is a mobile-first platform, and its video dimensions reflect that. The required aspect ratio for a native-looking TikTok video is 9:16.
The ideal resolution is 1080 pixels wide by 1920 pixels tall. While you can upload 4K video, TikTok compresses everything to 1080p for playback, so rendering your videos at 1080x1920 before uploading often yields better, less-compressed results.
Understanding TikTok Safe Zones
The biggest mistake creators make on TikTok is ignoring safe zones. TikTok's app interface overlays your video with buttons, captions, and account information.
If you place text or important visual elements on the right edge or bottom 20% of your video, they will be completely obscured by the Like button, comments icon, and your caption.
- Right edge: Leave the rightmost 15% clear to avoid overlapping with engagement buttons.
- Bottom area: Keep the bottom 25% clear to ensure your video caption and sound title are readable.
- Top area: Leave a small margin at the very top to account for the "Following/For You" toggle on some devices.
Technical Video Requirements
Ensure your export settings match TikTok's technical limits:
- File size limits: Up to 287.6 MB for iOS users, and 72 MB for Android users (when uploading from mobile). Web uploads support up to 1GB.
- Formats: MP4 or MOV files are recommended.
- Frame rate: 30fps or 60fps (60fps provides the smoothest scrolling experience).
